Trophies for FLHC End of Season 2008/2009
Young players get deserved awards at end of season celebration Frome Ladies Hockey Club marked the end of another challenging hockey season with its 2009 awards ceremony last week. With amusing tales, reports on the best season’ play for a while and hearty congratulations to all players and especially for those that received awards, the night went with a “swing” Amongst those chosen few were sixteen year olds Alice Harnden and Fran Slay who worked tirelessly through the season to win their coveted awards. Alice, a stalwart defender for Frome’ third team won players player having beaten off stiff competition from her older team mates and deservedly won the most improved under 18 player of the year as voted by the club’ committee. Under 18 player of the year went this time to Fran who was recognised for her efforts to move through the ranks from Frome’ thirds to its second team half way through the season. Both girls attend Frome’ community college and have been regularly attending the Thursday night training session at the leisure centre astro pitch. Club Manager, Frome Ladies Hockey Club fielded three competitive teams this season with their second team having the best season for a number of years by ending the year in fifth place in Wessex Division 2 scoring 33 goals. First team captain Rachel Stokes led her team by example this season and was worthy of her Club Woman of the Year award as well as first team players player of the year for her efforts to get her team in to the middle of the Central Division table. Other awards went to Lucy Gardner, second team players player of the year and Tara Jess, most improved player of the year. Written 29/04/2009
