Frome travelled to Keynsham for their penultimate fixture of the season. If Frys won they would gain automatic promotion and whether this was on their mind when the match started we do not know but they seemed nervous and Frome exploited this well with Cicely Hunt making some telling runs down the left getting the better of the Fry’s full back on every occasion possible. Frome took the lead through Janie Bullus from a short corner strike and then doubled their advantage when Eve Harvey slotted in from another short gained through Hunt. At this point Frome were well in control, the backs of Alice Gomes and Georgie Ryan ably dealing with any attacks from Frys organized well by sweeper Sue Marshall. As the frustration grew for Fry’s they became very aggressive which ended with one of their players being carded for an offence deemed unacceptable by the referee. This made them more determined than ever and they hit back from a short corner scored by their captain Louise Bale. They increased the tempo and although resolute defending by Alison Milton and great goalkeeping by Ingrid Dale they were not to be denied when they scored the equalizer. Passion was running high and it was to Frome’s credit that they kept themselves in check as it looked like the match could boil over because of what was at stake. Frome stuck to their guns, Hunt continuing to make inroads along with Harvey whose skills had Fry’s tied up in knots and back pedalling on many occasions. With a minute left Harvey picked up the ball from the half way line, left four Fry’s players in her wake before coolly slotting home to secure the victory for Frome. This was another fantastic result for Frome who seemed to have improved as the season has gone on. With one match left to play they can secure 3rd place in the league if they can finish with another victory.
