Disappointing End for Frome Mendip 2nds 2 Frome 2nds 1
In dreadful conditions of pouring rain Frome played local rivals Mendip but lost out in the last seconds to a retaken short corner when a draw to the match seemed inevitable. Frome started brightly with Fran Slay making great runs down the right along with Cicely Hunt doing the same down the left. After securing a short corner Jane Bullus struck a shot which Dot Moore touched in only to found that the referee disallowed it due to her breaking early. Frome continued with the pressure and their defence was rarely troubled. The return of Sue Marshall saw the backs well organized with Alice Gomes, Georgie Ryan and Alison Milton all playing well against strong opposition. In the 2nd half Mendip attacked from the start and although Ingrid Dale who had a fantastic match in goal made a couple of brilliant saves Mendip struck though Sharon Watts. At 1 0 though Frome were still in the game but when they found the net again only to have it disallowed they had a feeling it might not be their day! However with a couple of minutes to go Bullus struck from a corner after a great driving run from Eve Harvey to secure the short. Sadly it was not to be, the match ended but Mendip secured a short corner which had to be taken, Frome cleared and then the referee deemed it had to be retaken and Watts struck again to leave Frome devastated after a well fought match.
