Hard fought match ends in defeatFrome 2nds 0 Bath Buccaneers 5ths 2
Frome faced top of the league Bath knowing this was going to be a hard match. Undaunted though Frome attacked from the start and certainly in the early exchanges had opportunities to take the lead. Janie Bullus struck a well timed shot from a short corner and Dot Moore also had a great opportunity from three yards out. At this stage in the game Frome had contained Bath and with Heather Anderton and Kirstie Scott dealing with any Bath attacks Ingrid Dale in the Frome goal was untroubled. With the score 0 0 at half time Frome were still in the match and felt confident that they might come away with an outcome. Bath though started to create vast overlaps and play with confidence, passing the ball around to create an opening, and although Ingrid was outstanding in Frome’s goal it was inevitable that they would breach the defence. Georgie Ryan ran her heart out along with Doris Peet and Andree Williams but Frome stuck to their task trying to secure an equalizer. When one such attack broke down Bath capitalized on the opportunity and scored a great breakaway goal. The Bath coach gave Frome credit after the match when he told them that they had had one of their most competitive matches in a well fought battle played in an excellent spirit. Frome gave it their all but fitness played a part towards the end and Bath ran out worthy winners.
