Frome 1st vs Cheddar

Frome 1st XI 4 Cheddar 0

Another strong team performance gave Frome the win they deserved, after a one all draw the last time these two teams meet. Frome made some strong attacks on goal and thought they had opened the score with an outstanding strike on goal from Netty Cayford but the umpire disallowed the goal as it was demeaned to be dangerous. This gave Frome the desire to make sure they took the lead and very quickly they did open the scoring. A cross from Fran Slay on the right wing allowed Aileen Watson to sweep the ball into the back of the net. Cheddar did press the Frome defence but with Anji Whittamore playing sweeper she kept her cool to make sure Frome maintained their slim lead. Frome continued to work hard which paid off as just before half time Becky Godfrey made it two nil with a similar goal to the first one.

With continued strong defending from the back four of Julie Peet, Anna Carriero, Hannah Cowper and Anji Whittamore to allow the Frome mid field and attack to pressure the Cheddar goal further in the second half. This added pressure on the Cheddar defence paid of for Frome with the reward of a penalty corner which was struck by Netty Cayford to be deflected in by Aileen Watson for a three nil lead. Frome dominated a large percentage of the position but Cheddar did make some penetrating runs into the Frome D but Carla Travis made some key saves to keep a clean score sheet for Frome. With Netty Cayford in the middle distributing play, Frome had several opportunities to press up to the Cheddar goal. Eventually Aileen Watson took one of these opportunities to drive  the ball into the Cheddar D and take a shot which took a deflection off a Cheddar stick, allowing the ball to end up in the top right hand corner of the goal rewarding her with her third goal and a comfortable four nil lead.

A committed display from the whole team and it is hoped the same can be repeated next Saturday for the last game of the extended season at home to Weston Super Mare 11am pass back.
