Shepton Mallet 1st XI 4 Frome 1st XI 1Having previously beaten Shepton earlier in the season, Frome were hoping to return from the Christmas break for a repeat performance. Shepton opened the scoring after quick open play down their right side to cross the ball into the D leaving Frome on the back foot. Another goal in quick succession was skilfully struck by Shepton’s centre forward despite a solid performance from Frome’s sweeper Rachel Stokes. Frome took the decision to re-structure the defensive back four in an attempt to stop further breaks by the Shepton forward line; therefore Frome finished half time two goals down.
The second half started well for Frome and they were unlucky to concede an early second half goal. In an effort to come back, Frome created much needed space and the ball was played nicely around the team. Frome continued to battle playing the majority of the second half with only ten players. However, Frome’s persistence paid off when Anji Whittamore picked up a through ball in the D and cleanly slotted the ball past the advancing goal keeper. In spite of Frome’s valiant efforts a fourth goal from Shepton sealed Frome’s fate.
