Frome 1st XI 3 Shepton Mallet 1st XI 0On Saturday 10th October Frome Ladies 1st XI took on Shepton Mallet 1st XI at home. Frome approached the game very determined after a loss last week and this was evident by their continual fight for possession and play in their attacking end. Unfortunately after a few chances Frome were unable to put the ball away in the first half. Shepton’s defence were playing well and a few balls through to their strikers allowed their speedy attackers to break through Frome and make a break onto goal. Thanks to Carla Travis’ goalkeeping and Rachel Stokes’ sweeping the score at half time remained 0-0.
Frome came out fighting in the second half determined to convert their excellent passing and positioning into goals. This soon happened with an excellent shot on goal From Netty Cayford being slipped in by Frome’s Claire Edgerley. With this boost under their belt, Frome attacked hard and went for everything. Sarah Dinnis then scored again for Frome slipping a lovely ball past the goal keeper upping the score to 2-0. On a roll Shepton had to fight hard and again made a few more lucky breaks into Frome’s defence. However some excellent defending by Lucy Gardner who saved a goal off the line and Alice Gomes and Claire Edgerley who prevented most balls getting through kept Shepton at bay. The last goal of the match was scored by a fast sweep past the goalkeeper deep into the corner by Aileen Watson to end the game 3-0 to Frome. | |
