Frome 3rds 1:2 Devizes 3rds

Frome Thirds were narrowly beaten 2-1 by Devizes Thirds team much strengthened by Second team players.  The game started well for Frome with captain, Jo Shailes, an inspiration as the halves and forwards took the game straight to Devizes, playing most of the first 20 minutes in the Devizes’ half.  The exceptional Nikki Lank managed to capitalise on the pressure to score for Frome 23 minutes in. Then the tide turned, and Frome were on the defensive.  Devizes pressured down the left where half Lucy Townsend and defenders Hannah Richards and Heather Anderton worked indefatigably to keep the ball in the Devizes half. As Devizes pressured Frome made an error and a short corner was given from which Devizes scored. The second half was dominated by a resurgent Devizes team and they scored early in the second half, for the final 30 minutes the Frome defenders and goalie Jo Payne put in sterling work to keep the score at 2-1.  It was a disappointing end to a successful season where Frome Thirds finished at their highest position in the league in the history of the team.
